A bowl of smoothie

smoothie bowl

Today I’m excited to share something I have been totally addicted for the last 2 years.

I heard multiple times that having cold meals is not good, Ayurveda unfriendly and all. But, SERIOUSLY I tried to switch back to oatmeal, overnight oats, chia puddings, toasts, poached eggs or even nothing at all but nothing works. Nothing tastes the same and nothing provides the same satisfy my taste buds as smoothie bowl does.

There are insanely many variations of smootie bowls based on preferred ingredients, but I’ll share the one I love the most. The key ingredient here is cacao.

Cacao is the main ingredient in a high quality chocolate. Chocolate is known for making us happy, so does cacao (isn’t it awesome?). These days raw cacao powder is considered to be a “superfood” as it is rich in magnesium and other essential minerals (calcium, zinc, iron, copper, potassium..), it has antioxidant properties, vitamins B1,2,5,9 and E, protein and fiber.

Going down the list, the second big ingredient is blueberries. Blueberries are one of the highest antioxidant capacities among all fruits, vegetables, spices and seasonings. Blueberries can improve memory and slow down cognitive problems associated with aging. Blueberries are also rich in Vitamin K, manganese, Vitamin C, fiber and copper. Blueberries are delicious.

Among other good things this bowl has are: bananas (potassium), maca powder (energy  level, healthy libido) and hemp protein powder/seeds (amino acids and protein) or protein powder.

Ingredients for 1 serving:

1/3 frozen banana

1 cup of frozen/fresh blueberries

1 fat tbsp of cacao powder (adjust the amount, I like the rich taste of cacao and don’t like sweets in general, so I make mine quite cacao-y)

1/2 scoop of protein powder of choice (optional. I use vegan unsweetened protein powder Vega) OR 1 scoop of hemp powder

1 tsp maca powder (optional)

1 1/2 cups of almond&toasted coconut milk (my favourite is Califia, but use whatever you like just don’t mix cow milk with fresh fruits)

Add-ins:

Fresh berries (blueberries, duh), granola, hemp seeds, almond butter and whatever you like (I also add a black been chocolate cookie..).

Directions:

Blend all the ingredients besides the add-ins until the desired consistency. It should look like a soft serve ice cream.

Top with add-ins and enjoy.
